Women's and gender studies at Trinity explores the cultural construction of gender and sexuality. This interdisciplinary program offers courses from a wide range of academic fields and generally attracts a diverse group of students, who bring their passion for activism, equality, and empowerment to the classroom.
Offered as a minor, the program requires 19 semester hours with 79 courses to choose from across academic sections taught by faculty from all disciplines, including communication, English, modern languages and literatures, philosophy, political science, and sociology and anthropology. Courses in the program examine gender and sexuality in the context of race and class, global and domestic politics, religion, and critical theory through literature, visual arts, and other media. The classes are designed to give students the critical skills and intellectual training they need to ground their personal and political concerns.
The women's and gender studies program offers opportunities for experiential learning from participation in Women's History Month, Gay Pride Week, and programming through a number of campus organizations.
The women’s and gender studies program also supports the Pathways curriculum with an interdisciplinary cluster on Gender, Sex, and Society.
By successfully completing the program, students cultivate skills and contacts invaluable to their careers, characters, and adult lives. Recent alumni have pursued careers in child-welfare advocacy, law, and education among others.
